Theory of Practice: Play
At some level, we all need to find joy in what we do.  That is equally true in the personal arena as it is in the corporate domain. Even in the worst case scenario where work is merely a means to an ends, the joy from that end still needs to provide enough energy to make the work sustainable.  And in the best case, work hardly seems like work at all because it is rewarding for intrinsic reasons.

As part of my theory of practice, some of the things I look at include

  • How is success recognized and celebrated?
  • How do you recharge?
  • What do you do that brings you a sense of joy or pride?
  • Where is the boundary between recognizing individual and group achievement?
  • How much focus is there on well-being at the personal, team, and organizational level?
